FATHER ABRAHAM: THE FIRST SCIENTIST

Image
Science itself or rather the scientific method, originally evolved from religion and religious thinkers. The Qur’an has taught us that the father of science was our ancestor and progenitor, Abraham, as God told us in chapter  Q6:75 "So also did we show Abraham the power and the laws of heaven and earth, that he might (with understanding) have certitude" Abraham was the first to study astronomy and geography, he was depicted in the Qur’an as a great scientist, as he was always reasoning and asking questions. Whenever he was confused he directly asked the almighty to clarify. So during his lifetime he begins to notice a strange phenomenon as his specie (Homo erectus) were inter-marrying with their contemporary, the Lots people (Homo Neanderthals) and the resulting children were hybrids. He asked God for clarification as we were told in chapter Q2:260 "Behold Abraham said "My lord! Show me how thou give life to the dead" (God) said "Do you not then be...

THE NORTHERN WAHALA!

Image
2007 Nigeria was born through the amalgamation of the northern and southern protectorates in 1914 under the British colonial rule. Earlier on at the dawn of the century, the British military might subdued the last remnants of the Sokoto caliphate with the fall of Kano in 1903. The yet to be names northern region was then a union of emirates spread from beyond the banks of Argungu river in the west to the banks of lake Chad in the east and from the edge of the Sahara desert in the north down to the banks of river Niger and Benue in the south, all controlled from the seat of the caliphate in Sokoto. The colonial masters having appreciate the efficiency of the political and civil administration of the empire based on Islamic principles decided to leave it intact but use the indirect rule system copied from the Indian experience. The western system of education was introduced to be greeted with skepticism by the society as it was deemed alien and ungodly, except for the few so...

JINNS: SPIRITUAL FANTASY OR SCIENTIFIC POSSIBILITY?

Image
Before the emergence of life on this planet, God for 14 centuries has told us the existence of a different kind of creation, namely the Jinns (Genie). Present day scientist had been trying hard to establish the possibility of an extraterrestrial life. But up to date all they were able to is show the possibility of conditions to harbor life, even recently (February 2007) NASA Scientist has discovered a planet orbiting a star about 190,000 billion kilometers away deep in space. The star emits light that is about 1/4 of our sun's intensity, which enables the planet temperature range between 0-40 degrees. At this temperature water could exist in liquid form on the planet and theoretically life like our own could find the place habitable. This universe, that up to date with all our technological advancement, could not determine its limit is too vast for us alone. Our solar system, which is only a speck in the order of our own galaxy, is several billion kilometers in diamet...

KA'ABA: THE CENTER OF OUR PLANET

Image
Genesis 12:8 "And he removed from thence unto a  mountain  on the  east  of bethel and pitched his tent…and there he build an  altar  unto the lord" In this verse from Torah, God gave us three hints to know the exact location of the blessed land. One, it is a mountainous place. Two it is in the east and three there was an altar built there. Present day Israel does not fit the description. But what about Mecca? It was a city in the east and in the midst of mountains, it also has an altar associated with Abraham (The Ka’aba). Several rites of the pilgrims were done in an imitation of Abraham. In Israel there is no place of worship associated with Abraham. After building the altar God said Genesis 14-15 "And the lord said to Abraham…lift up now thine eyes and look from the place where you are northward and southward and eastward and westward. For all the land that you see to thee I will give it and thy seed forever" After building this altar, which is at...

THE PLANETS

Image
In the Quran God use adjurations in many verses, looking critically at those verses will reveal an underlying scientific facts in over 70% of those adjurations. An adjuration is a solemn appeal for persons to do some act, examine or to believe some important statement made by the evidence of something great or sublime or remarkable or out of the ordinary. In one of thoe adjuration God says Q81:15 “So verily I call to witness the planets that  recedes” So which are the planets that recedes? Certainly the Arabs of the 7 th  Century have no way no way of truly understanding this adjuration. With the advent of modern astronomy it is discovered that the Earth is one of nine planets orbiting our Sun. Among these, two (Mercury and Venus) lies within the orbit of the Earth making them closer in promixity to the sun. Mercury being the closest to the sun, orbited the sun in 88 days making it the fastest among the planets. Being so close to the sun at the distance of only 58...

WATER CYCLE

Image
Q25: 48-9 "And we send down pure watch from the sky that with it we may give life to a dead land" Scientifically we know that at the early period of the earth, the earth was devoid of water (talk less of any form of life). It only constitutes Rocky Mountains and various gases. Water was formed originally on the primitive earth when a chemical reaction between Hydrogen and Oxygen took place as the earth cooled. This process produces H20 (water). As the gases that formed the earth cooled and became liquid particles a dense cloud blanketed the earth. When the temperature dropped, the cloud shed their water, a downpour that lasted for 60,000 years, filling the ocean and the lower land basins that were formed when the molten crust hardened. About 97.2% of the earth water lies in the ocean and 2.15% is held in ice caps and in the ancient glaciers of the high mountain zone. The reminder of the water is spread over an area ranging from 3 miles below the earth surface to 7 miles...

BALANCE IN NATURE

Image
Q15: 19 "And the earth we have spread out, set thereon mountains firm and immovable and produce there in all kinds or things in  due balance ". Examining this planet and all that it contains will reveal a remarkable order and balance. There is an infinite chain of gradation and inter-dependence. The mineral kingdom supports the plant kingdom, which in turn supports the animal kingdom. The waste of one is made the food of another and vice versa. Excess is eliminated let see some of them. (i) NITROGEN CIRCLE Purifying bacteria decompose the proteins in humans, which use the energy set free for their respiration. The proteins are finally broken down into simple substances like, CO2, H20 and NH3. The NH3 is oxidized by nitrifying bacteria into nitrates and the amount of combined nitrogen in the soil is reduced to gaseous nitrogen by denitrifying bacteria. The Gaseous nitrogen is again converted into combine nitrogen by nitrogen-fixing bacteria. The energy of light...

Science, Religion and Atheism

Image
One of the most remarkable things to struck me in the Cambridge course was the fact that the Christian west, besides being the modern drivers of the scientific enterprise, were also in the driving seat towards better understanding of the dialogue at the intersection of science and religion. This trend despite the fact that the western culture is, for the last few hundred years, oriented towards the Intellectual endeavor is also being fuelled by the recent rise in Atheism. Modern Atheism, propagated by its most prominent proponent, Richard Dawkins, hides behind Neo-Darwinism to outrageously claimed that God (Or believing in him) is like a  “malignant infection contaminating otherwise pure minds ”. Other part of the arguments of Dawkins and Co. was that religion is the root of most the evil perpetrated by mankind. Yes, every student of history will concur to the fact of atrocities committed in the name of religion. The beatitudes spoken by ...

ISLAM AND THE PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE

Image
Philosophy of science is the study, from a philosophical perspective, of the elements of scientific inquiry and of their validity.  The philosophy of science attempts first to elucidate the elements involved in scientific inquiry—observational procedures, patterns of argument, methods of representation and calculation, metaphysical presuppositions—and then to evaluate the grounds of their validity from the points of view of formal logic, practical methodology, and metaphysics. The philosophy of science is thus a topic for explicit analysis just as are other subdivisions of philosophy.  The first attempts to move beyond traditional mythologies to a rational account of nature, begins with the Ionian and south Italian philosophers around 600 BC. Questions about nature discussed in Plato's  Timaeus  and Aristotle's  Physics,  for instance, were neither purely metaphysical nor purely empirical in character though they had a methodological aspect akin...
